AEROTOWING:
Currently we tug with a NorthWing Apache trike; the idea is to manage the pilot behind the tug for the easiest and most stable ride up as possible. We would all prefer to tug with a Dragonfly, however investment cost & return do not make it practical for us at this time (have fixed wing rating to fly the Bailey tug). Here's the current towing equipment list:
NorthWing Apache Sport
NorthWing 17.5 meter wing
Average tow speeds are 32 to 38mph
Rotax 582 w/ tow system
BRS safety system
Tow Cart provided with tug pilot and trike (system)
Have own tow ropes
Mobile Services: Truck, Camper, and Trailer for complete tours & events
EXPERIENCE:
I started my flying career as a hang glider pilot. My first 1000 hours of flight were spent between coastal flying and the mountains. I've flown the Owens Valley, the Cascades, high Desert, and several USHGA competitions. I did the advanced instructor gig, the tandem pilot routine, and aerotow. I'm well seasoned and familiar with all the ass-kick'n air and high altitudes we fly.
Flying since 1991 (USHPA #54580)
Towing since 2002
Provided over 500 successful tows (without indecent or accident)
Quest Fl. 2002 comp tow pilot
Santa Cruz Flats tow pilot 2008 & 2010
Nor Cal Aero Club designated tow pilot
USHPA appointed tug pilot / FAA Endorsement Private Pilot WSCL & Tug/AeroTow endorsed
Private Pilot; Land & Sea
OPERATIONS:
My approach to aerotowing is that I only tow pilots that are advanced rated (H4) and have a current tow rating. They must be currently active in flying (>50 /hrs for the year) and have towed within the last 3 months. If a H2 or H3 wants to tow, he must have a recommendation from a know advanced instructor (one that I know & respect) and also be rated to aerotow. I reserve the right NOT to tow anyone I feel not competent or is just an A-Hole!!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
I control only the trike and when I pass the carabiner to you, everything behind that is the responsibility of the tow administrator and the towed pilot in command. I do NOT provide tow instruction, tow equipment (ie:harnesses, weak links, release systems, etc) only the tug service, tow cart, and tow ropes with carabiner. You tow at your own risk, period!!
NOTE: Waivers must be signed by the pilots prior to any equipment set-up or tow activities
RATE SCHEDULE:
Initial on-site set up fee: $300.00. This fee covers my fuel, travel, and set up of equipment. If long distance travel is required, compensation can be negotiated.
ALTITUDES:
2K AGL $25.00
3K AGL $30.00
4K AGL $50.00
5K AGL $65.00
Over 5K AGL, just give me your credit card and don't look at the bill !!
NOTE: Premature pin-off: (tug releases you in flight due to your poor piloting/positioning) and you loose the tow rope, a $200.00 service fee will be added to your bill. No exceptions!!
